My $33 Giant DIY Frame-Collage Adventure!
One day, in the staff lounge, I came across this...
and naturally I walked right past it since it was of no use to me. As time went on (and as my Pinterest addiction slowly increased) I convinced myself that I could TOTALLY use this frame. I just didn't know how. The frame sat in my classroom for months. Finally, I came across this photo at BeckyHiggins.com and I KNEW what I had to do.
First I gathered my supplies:
1. The fabric was left over from my bench project here
My frames. The big frame was free..woohoo!! The 8x10's & 4x7's I found at Value Village while "treasure hunting" with my sister a few weeks back. The black frame was from Goodwill a long time ago.
Check out the price on my 8X10....SCORE! I LOVE thrift store treasure hunting!
Anyway, I digress. I set them out on my table to see what I still needed. I lacked something in the middle so I went to Michaels and purchased this for $3.99.
(Since our last name starts with T.)
2. Spray paint & Tarp
I made my way over to Lowes and purchased Valspar 12oz Black Satin Paint. ($3.98) and purchased a tarp as well (8.98). Paint at the craft store was DOUBLE for the same amount...just so you know! As far as the spray paint goes I used one can and that got me through. I would recommend purchasing a second can for touch ups. Some areas on my frames could use a spray or two but it isn't very noticeable so I didn't go back out and buy another can.
Next, the process
(lesson + learned = the hard way)
After that I started spray painting. I painted all of my frames and then let them dry for awhile. (About 20 minutes) After that I came back and re-sprayed areas that needed touch ups. I did this one more time and I was finished.
Next, I turned over my frame and used my staple gun to attach the fabric. Remember to pull somewhat tight so that you don't have loose fitting fabric. You want your fabric to stretch somewhat like a canvas.
Finally, I put my large frame up on the wall then added my smaller frames and newly spray painted letter T and voila! My bare dining room wall is no more!!

Greetings. :)
